Why Storyboard?

Storyboards are something we all know of but are not something that we really know about.  Storyboarding is when you break down your film shot by shot in frames drawn or composed that represent how you want those shots to look like in your final product.  They look a lot like a comic book really.  Well, not mine. Mine look like my 4 year old could have drawn them and I think that is why I never did them until this past year.  Even if you're the only one that can understand them they can benefit by helping you premeditate on the way you want to shoot something.

In many ways this can help you determine the kind of place you want to shoot and see how the scene will take place in different settings.  It also is a way to convey to other people working on the project what your intentions are.

The pictures help convey this when you’re making the “Swoosh” noise for a crane going up and a “choooshhhhh” for something flying by in slow motion when your explaining it to that big client you’ve been trying to produce something for.

In this video for the Sangre De Cristo Arts Center I put the storyboard in with the shots of the video.  After you're done watching it you can see the simplicity of the pictures and how much time you can save by thinking of your shots before the shoot and not on them.

The second video is the promo with the sponsors and logos.

I’d like to send a special thanks to ProfessorPhunk for allowing me to use his music on this promo! Check out his Soundcloud page!

Update:  There are a few more people I need to thank for their help!  David Hartkop helped me a ton with his lights and his help with the lighting and Justin Bregar who came and set up and operated his crane that he made.  Its amazing and I couldn't get the amazing shot at the beginning with out it!  Also, thanks to the extras for participating!
